Abayomi Sanyaolu told delegates at the Allied Peoples Movement\u2019s (APM) ward congress on Saturday that recent national developments inside the party have strengthened its organisation and election readiness across Nigeria, with particular confidence in Ogun State\u2019s political contest ahead of the next governorship poll.<\/p>\n
Sanyaolu said APM is prepared for the political battles in Ogun State and pointed to what he described as visible momentum last week, when Governor Seyi Makinde shifted his political alignment toward APM and announced his intention to run for president.<\/p>\n
He argued that the governor\u2019s move demonstrates that APM\u2019s entry into Ogun State is not a short-term exercise.<\/p>\n
Sanyaolu went further, declaring that the party expects to replace the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun after the next governorship election.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cWe are taking over the government from Governor Dapo Abiodun. I am 100 percent sure about that. I don\u2019t believe in crowd, I believe in serious work.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sanyaolu also sought to reassure Ogun residents that the party intends to remain a major political force after 2027, framing APM\u2019s expansion as long-term and programme-based rather than opportunistic.<\/p>\n
He told the audience that by May 2027, APM\u2019s gubernatorial contender would be sworn in as governor of Ogun State.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am assuring the good people of Ogun State that APM has come and it has come to stay. By May 2027, by the special grace of God, when they are announcing the Governor, they will be saying the gubernatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement will be sworn in as Governor of Ogun State,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In the same remarks, he maintained that once campaign activity fully gathers pace, no party in the state will be able to match APM\u2019s strength.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am affirming again that APM has come to stay and it is the party to beat. No party can challenge us when the time comes,\u201d Sanyaolu added.<\/p>\n
Turning to national issues, Sanyaolu criticised the Federal Government\u2019s handling of insecurity, arguing that it has been insufficient and calling for urgent, decisive measures to stop ongoing attacks.<\/p>\n
He said the government is not capable or competent enough to manage insecurity, noting that many lives have already been lost and urging authorities to treat the crisis as an emergency.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Federal Government is not capable and not competent enough in handling insecurity. Too many lives have been lost already. They should have declared a state of emergency on insecurity because we cannot continue to watch while people are being attacked,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sanyaolu also highlighted what he described as a rising pattern of attacks across the South-West and said the situation requires immediate intervention from the Federal Government.<\/p>\n
He argued that security is a national responsibility and said the region\u2019s leaders should not be blamed when the security system under federal control fails to prevent violence.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese people have already ambushed us in the South-West and the President is from the South-West. Nobody can blame Governor Seyi Makinde because security is a federal issue. If the Federal Government cannot handle it alone, they should seek international support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He further accused political figures of not taking the crisis seriously, suggesting the lack of direct impact on senior officials and their families has contributed to a softer response.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose kidnappers have never kidnapped any senator, House of Representatives member, House of Assembly member, governor or their children. That is why they are taking it easy. If one of their family members had been kidnapped, they would have taken stronger action,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Despite the criticism, Sanyaolu insisted that the Federal Government must act quickly to address insecurity and rebuild public confidence among Nigerians.<\/p>\n
