5FM Is Taking Over Durban!

June 15th, 2012

5FM is bringing the party and the power of good to Durban this July for the station’s fourth Durban Takeover Weekend, a series of events that’s become a can’t-miss on the South African social calendar. Held over four days from 5 to 8 July 2012, the 5FM Durban Takeover Weekend ties in with the Durban July where some of 5FM’s top DJs will be performing live, hosting events and giving back as part of 5FM’s CSI initiative, Youngblood5.

Four days, four hot parties, 10 of 5FM’s coolest DJs in Durban…

Here’s what’s going down at the Durban Takeover Weekend:

Thursday 5th July

Roger Goode and co-host Angie Khumalo kick things off with their brand of wacky edginess and cool music. The Roger Goode Radio Show will broadcast live from Taca Zulu on Florida Road from 7pm to 10pm. Entrance is free so join ‘the Raj’ and his sidekick Angie to blast open the weekend 5FM style.

Friday 6th July

Join The Fresh Drive team of DJ Fresh, Poppy Ntshongwana, Catherine Grenfell and Duran Collett at the Wavehouse at Gateway Theatre of Shopping when they broadcast live from 3pm to 7pm. Entrance is free and listeners who come through can meet the team, plus Friday’s favourite deck spinner, DJ Kent who’ll perform live on the Ultimix@6 from 6pm. Other highlights include interactive games with the team and the chance to win some hot prizes.

And the party doesn’t stop there! Stick around for the Gateway Theatre of Shopping and City of Durban Free Concert hosted by Poppy Ntshongwana with performances from 5FM’s own DJ Fresh and DJ Euphonik, as well as Niskerone and Liquideep.

Saturday 7th July

5FM heats up The Miller Marquee at the Durban July from 11am with the hottest live entertainment hosted by 5FM’s Poppy Ntshongwana and featuring performances from GoodLuck, Khuli Chana, AKA, Lulo Café and more. And the party doesn’t end when the races do – the Ultimix: Weekend Edition broadcasts live from the Miller Marquee, keeping the good vibes going from 7pm to 10pm with beats from 5FM’s Euphonik and 5FM DJs Milkshake and C-Live as guests.

Sunday 8th July 2012

There’s plenty going down on Sunday – from Youngblood5 during the day to the hottest house music at night…

Sunday starts at 11am at the Chatsworth Youth Centre in Chatsworth where 5FM’s Sureshnie Rider, who hails from Durban, will donate a projector and screen to the centre. Says Sureshnie, “I’m incredibly honoured to be giving back to the community of Chatsworth, in particular the Chatsworth Youth Centre. The youth attending this centre need to be motivated and inspired to see that nothing is impossible or unattainable. We asked the Centre about their needs and education came out tops. I will be using part of the charity money earned as an MTN Yello Rose ambassador to purchase equipment for the audio visual room at the centre. The kids use the venue for extra tuition so a projector and screen will help them as a group to study.”

Volunteers can come through to help spruce up the centre’s grounds. Listen out to 5FM for more details on how you can get involved in the day’s activities.

The weekend comes to a close with a live broadcast of Euphonik’s My House from 7pm to 10pm at Boulevard on Florida Road. Entrance costs R100 and R150 for VIP.
