The accident caused by soccer player Bryce Moon in which pedestrian Mavis Ncube was killed took place on the side of Katherine Street and not on the road itself, the Randburg Magistrate’s Court heard on Tuesday.

The Bidvest Wits player is on trial on charges of murder, alternatively attempted murder, drunken driving as well as reckless or negligent driving.

He allegedly hit Ncube while driving down Katherine Street, in Sandhurst, in 2009. She was taken to the Morningside Clinic where she died.

Prosecutor Roger Mareume presented several pictures of the road where the accident took place and requested Moon to pinpoint the exact spot where the incident happened.

Moon had also taken his own pictures of the scene after the accident took place.

In one photo Moon said the marks on the road appeared straight, in contrast to the one in which the accident took place.

Moon had testified that the collision took place on a bend.

“This is why you cannot point where it took place on the photo, because the collision happened on the gravel by the side of the road,” said Mareume.

Moon said Ncube and her cousin Thandi Sibanda jumped into the road as he approached the bend.

Mareume said Sibanda testified that she and Ncube split up as she ran to the right while Ncube ran to the left to avoid Moon’s car.

Moon said he saw both of them run into the road and he swerved, avoiding Sibanda but hit Ncube. The car then hit a wall.

Moon denied he had been speeding and that loud music was heard coming from his car.

The trial continues.
