Eda Rose chats exclusively to ZAlebs about tabloid rumours, bad publicity and how she deals!

How does it feel to live your life constantly under the spotlight? Do you think you’ll ever get used to it?

This is the lifestyle I’ve chosen and although I wasn’t too familiar with the extent at which the media can probe into your personal space, I knew that being a celebrity came with behavioral responsibilities – something I don’t have a problem with as it’s consistent with my values.

A number of celebs have spoken up about Sunday mornings and how they dread the Sunday tabloids. How do you feel about it?

The first time I had read of rumours concerning me, it was terribly frustrating that my character and my actions were deliberately being misinterpreted in order to boost someone else’s image. However, I’ve since not let such things confuse or anger me because the wider public know that they can’t believe everything they read in the papers. The type of career I’m in the process of establishing for myself squashes any speculation about me.

You admirably manage to keep your private life quite private. Do you have any rules that you abide by?

Although I’m very private, I do take the opportunity to greet and take pictures with my supporters. A rule I stick to is, instead of ignoring unsolicited calls that I receive, I make it clear to the person on the other side of the phone that they best lose my number!

When it comes to rumours – are you the kind of person who addresses them head on or do you prefer to just let them be?

Initially I attempted to justify myself to every reporter that came along but later realised that doing so drained my energy. Now in the event of new gossip, I just issue a press statement stating my position on the matter and don’t comment on it any further when asked. The reason for this is that I feel that since I am in the limelight, it’s only right that I communicate with my fans; everyone else can continue to feed off of the unfounded scandal of which they’ll soon get tired.

What do you think of the statement – all publicity is good publicity?

I don’t agree with it at all. Sure, bad publicity gets people talking about you but I would rather be discussed in terms of the great work that I do.

Are there any exciting projects that you’re working on which you can tell us about?

I’ll soon be shooting episodes for TaxiRide (a movie I did earlier this year directed by comedian David Kau).  Channel Mzansi Magic loved the film so much that now it will be a 13 part series.

In January I’ll bring my second line of shoes and bags under the ER Collection into SA. I’m also currently working on my album which I hope I will complete next year however, music has its own time and space so I don’t want to rush that.

Otherwise I continue to audition for many more new opportunities so hopefully I will be on your TV screen’s presenting and on your radio hosting a show sooner rather than later.

Listen to Eda’s track, “Just Like You” below and let us know what you think!
