She is known as a controversial journalist who has written about the who’s who of the entertainment world, a model who’s graced covers of magazines and a TV presenter who has a knack for carelessly naming and shaming a lot of celebrities. And now Kuli Roberts says she has no gripes with being given a taste of ‘her own medicine’ – this in the wake of rumours that she took offence to Trevor Noah’s insults to her during SA’s inaugural Comedy Central Roast. The ‘roasted’ was none other than controversial Afrikaans music icon Steve Hofmeyr and the roastmaster, SA comedy extraordinaire Trevor Noah.
Trevor apparently threw snide comments about all the roasters including Minki van der Westhuizen and Anele Mdoda but when it came to Kuli he was allegedly ‘personal’ says Kuli, who is also the older sister to TV and film personality Hlubi Mboya. “McSlutty, I’m glad you’re sober enough to join us,” joked Trevor as he greeted Kuli, later referring to her as a nymphomaniac, druggie and cocaine user.
Kuli, what happened?
I thought the roast was meant to be for Steve but it suddenly stopped being about him and became about me. I mean what the f*#k? That little boy Trevor used the opportunity to vocalise whatever issues he has against me and I don’t care – I got paid.
What issues?
I don’t know but I don’t care. I don’t know him, I don’t talk to him. He even blew this whole thing out of proportion when he took to Twitter. Like does he expect me to care? I’m so over that little boy who is used to insecure women. I’m not affected – I got paid for my role on the show and that’s all that counts.
What did he say?
Geez I can’t remember most of it but something about me being a narcissistic hypocrite…and he kept talking about my vagina. He wouldn’t know it if he saw it – he is such a coward. He couldn’t even use the ‘k’ word but was happy to make reference to my vagina over and over again. That little thing doesn’t have respect for women – none at all. He was too afraid to roast Steve about his controversies which were what the show was about – he is a complete victim of black on black hate. Pick on the black woman! But you know me, I can roll with any punches. I’m not afraid of anyone but it would have been great to have some prior warning. I didn’t know what to expect and frankly I will never do such a show again. It’s so sad.
