Mandela Day is celebrated across the world on his birthday every year. 18 July will stand forever a day that inspires us all to make small differences in our communities, and together work towards changing the world.
So we decided to find out how a few zalebs will be spending their 67 minutes to make a difference.
Tumi Morake
I’ll be visiting an orphanage in Doornfontein, taking them supplies and helping with the babies.
Sade Giliberti
I’m part of the Cheesekids event, which has been postponed – we’re going to Dr Nhlapo Primary to do a nice revamp. In the meantime I’m donating some clothing to a girls home, with the possibility of helping them out for the day with whatever they need.
Liezel van der Westhuizen
I’ll be packing parcels for Stop Hunger Now at Pick ‘n Pay’s Head office in Cape Town in the morning. In the afternoon I’ll be knitting squares at Nelson Mandela Rhodes Place and then the squares will be sewn together to make blankets.
Roxy Burger
I’m a Cheesekids ambassador, so we’re taking part in the Mandela Day Revolution, which has been postponed due to bad weather. I’ll be painting and gardening at a children’s home in Parktown.
Zuraida Jardine
I don’t have anything in particular planned, other than a deep observance of of the day and the remarkable man we celebrate. It’s a true privilege to be living in this time. As a mother, Mandela Day will be discussed in my home at the family table forever, and my kids will be made aware of this legend forever more.
Carol Ralefeta
I’m an ambassador for Cheesekids, so I’m going to be doing work for them at Coach, a charity that I’m a patron of. I’m just going to do a motivational talk, hang out with the kids and just have a little fun.
What will you be doing this Mandela Day?
