iTunes Launched In South Africa

December 5th, 2012

Apple expanded its ultra-successful online store iTunes to South Africa on Tuesday, giving music fans access to a library of local and international hits.

In a statement Apple said customers would be able to choose from over 20 million songs available to purchase and download.

Announcing the shop’s roll-out across Russia, Turkey, India and “52 additional countries” Apple indicated films were not yet available in South Africa.

South Africa, with a population of around 50 million, is by far the continent’s richest economy, despite crushing poverty in some urban and rural areas.

According to World Wide Worx an estimated one in ten South Africans will have access to the web by the end of the year.
