Businessman Kenny Kunene has apparently joined the debate about the controversial painting by Brett Murray, called The Spear, which shows President Jacob Zuma revealing his genitals.

According to Art South Africa, Kenny has offered to buy it so that he can burn it publicly.

The painting was sold to an unnamed German art collector before it was defaced. The collector still wants the painting despite the vandalism, and purchased it for R136,000.

Kenny has publicly offered to pay the Goodman Gallery as much as three times this amount to purchase the piece. He apparently said democracy had gone too far, and, if the painting was displayed in other circumstances, both the artist and those who supported him would be jailed for the insult.

Kenny will hold a braai if he secures the painting, as invited his fellow South Africans to it so they can witness ‘the burning of The Spear‘.
