Bonnie Henna just finished penning her autobiography titled Eye bags and Dimples. She spoke exclusively to ZAlebs about her new book…
So Bonnie, what is your book about?
I would describe the book as a coming of age story. Owning my past, sifting through the rubble and the triumphs of my life, and helping to clear the path for the kind of future I want. The book tells of my family’s struggle with depression told on the backdrop of my tumultuous journey through life, from a child star to an adult accepting the illness and fighting to overcome it.
Would you say that you’re following the current trend of all the local celebrities penning books?
I have always loved to write and I am hoping this book will be the beginning of my journey as a prolific writer. As to why I wrote the book, it’s about sharing my experiences of when I was so low that I needed a pill just to get out of bed. I’m hoping that through telling my story I will help many others who haven’t yet discovered the tools to help themselves find their way out of the dark trenches of depression and into the light of a full life.
Now that you are a writer and actress, what can your fans look forward to from you?
As a writer I would like to venture into the daunting world of fiction. I love poetry too and would love to do a collection of poetry. I will continue to learn and discover as much as I can about myself as a writer.
As an actress, I want to continue entertaining South African and international audiences on the small and big screens. My goal is to tell stories for the rest of my life…
