The staff of the National Zoo’s Australian section recently stepped in to assist a young Red kangaroo, Joey that was rejected by its mother.
The young Joey was found abandoned in the kangaroo enclosure and was rushed to the zoo’s veterinary hospital where her body temperature was stabilised.
Once she is weaned and eating well, she will be introduced back into the family group through a safe step-by-step introduction programme.
She is currently being hand-reared by Curatorial staff.
