Fashion, celebrities, elegance and horse racing were all on the menu this past weekend as the who’s who of socialites and local ZAlebville all visited Cape Town’s Kenilworth Race Course for the 152nd L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate event.
The exclusive prestigious horse racing event, which saw all guests donning blue and white outfits, as fashion met horse racing once again – at the first high-profiled social event on the 2013 calendar.
SA-born-US-based model, Nicola Breytenbach, rocked in a sexy white Gavin Rajah mini, Brian Atwood shoes and a stunning Inga Savits clutch while Dagbreek presenter and 2011 L’Ormarins Queens Plate Best Hat winner Kia Johnson dazzled in a lengthy, cream Victor K creation, topped with a vintage brown hat from The Little Hattery.
Other zalebrities who were also spotted at the event included celeb commentator and TV personality Jennifer Su (who dazzled in an eye-catching navy blue dress, not forgetting her famous fetish for hats – blue and white, of course) as well as Top Billing presenter and TV producer, Jo-Ann Strauss (who looked ravishing in a floor-length turquoise Stefania Morland gown), who emceed the Best Dressed and Best Hat proceedings, in-between the various races throughout the day
SA’s own version of “Posh and Becks”, power couple Lee-Ann and Nicky van der Walt, TV presenter and model Shashi Naidoo (one of the Best Dressed and Best Hat judges), newly-engaged Kfm radio presenter Elana Afrika, surfer and model Roxy Louw and Expresso presenter Leigh-Anne Williams (in a sexy vintage Kluk GDT, 50’s inspired frock), SA Olympian swimmer Ryk Neethling as well as Headline’s Kuli Roberts were all in attendance – on a perfect summery Cape Town day, where guests all enjoyed wines, canapés, food and copious amounts of drinks and refreshments at this very elaborate and celebrated event.
The newly-crowned Miss South Africa Marilyn Ramos was also in attendance – her first Cape Town visit since her teenage years, she said. Ramos donned a royal navy blue Anel Botha frock, coupled with some elegant, detailed lace embroidery.
While all the esteemed guests mingled away in the various high-profiled marquees, the race’s focus was all about the sport of horse racing.
Variety Club walked away with top hours in this year’s main horse race, while Jackson achieved second place, while Pomodoro came in third.
Guests were entertained by UK DJ Lora (whose fans include the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Pete Tong, Kim Kardashian and Annie Leibovitz) as well as 5fm’s DJ Fresh once the festivities had come to a close, where the guests managed to party the night away in style!
