Rain Delays Jub Jub Judgment

October 11th, 2012

Judgment in the murder trial of musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and Themba Tshabalala was delayed by rain on Thursday.

“I would like to pursue this matter for finality, but the rain is interfering with the recording equipment,” magistrate Brian Nemavhidi said in the Protea Magistrate’s Court.

“I postpone the matter to tomorrow [Friday]… bail extended.”

Maarohanye and Tshabalala were allegedly drag-racing in Protea North in March 2010 when they crashed into a group of schoolchildren. Four boys were killed and two were seriously injured.

They are charged with murder, reckless driving, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and failing to assess the injuries of the victims. Both have pleaded not guilty.

They watched from the dock as Nemavhidi started delivering judgment on Wednesday, with a summary of the evidence of 20 witnesses who have testified since the trial started in 2010.

Friends and family of the school children, and of Tshabalala and Maarohanye, were present.
