Terry Pheto graces the June cover of Marie Claire magazine, looking super-glam in garments from Louis Vuitton’s spring-summer collection.
Pheto, who is currently based in Los Angeles, was flown to Paris for the shoot which was inspired by an iconic 1956 Marie Claire cover of Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire.
It’s been roughly nine years since the esteemed fashion magazine has featured a local, black celebrity on its cover.
In an interview with Timeslive, Marie Claire editor Aspasia Karras explains why the magazine has had so few local stars grace its covers in recent years. “People think it’s the magazine editors, but I think that in South Africa we have a very fragmented market.
“The Afrikaans magazines put all the Afrikaans soap stars on their covers, the traditionally black magazines have cornered the market in terms of local back cover stars and the international titles put international stars on the title.”
Karras went on to explain that Pheto had made it onto the latest cover of Marie Claire because she is a local star of international calibre.
Terry’s latest on-screen role is that of Dr. Mailaika Maponya in the soapie, The Bold and the Beautiful.
