With the July 10th date rolling closer, the Comic’s Choice Awards team is getting into high gear with what promises to be a show that will knock the spots off anything else you’ll see this year.
“We can’t say too much, as surprise is a huge part of making the show really rock, but let’s just say we are pushing the boat out this year,” says awards organiser Taffia Keight.
“We are currently putting together a cast of musicians, comics and actors, as well as artists, to create a benchmark multimedia comedy variety show. We’ve had to raise a lot of extra sponsorship, and Savanna have come on board, as well as The Times and Blackberry, which is fantastic, as we’re spending all of it on a kick ass experience,” says Taffia.
Teatro at Montecasino has been chosen to host the event again this year which will take place on the 10th of July 2012.
The awards
The Times Comic’s Pen Award (new award)
Audience Choice Award (2011 winner Bevan Cullinan)
Newcomer Award (2011 winner Deep Fried Man)
The Blackberry Breakthrough Act (2011 winner Rob van Vuuren)
Comics Choice Award (2011 Riaad Moosa)
Lifetime Achiever Award (2011 winner Mel Miller)
As a precursor to the awards, The Comic’s Choice Awards have added “The Grilling Of A Lifetime” Event to its arsenal. ”The Grilling Of A Lifetime” is a one-off evening which will celebrate the life and times of the Lifetime Achiever – by tearing them apart.
Only 200 people can join in on the evening as a panel of top comedians take turns hurling eloquent abuse at the guest of honour, chaired by inaugural winner, Mel Miller. A grilling is not for the faint-hearted, it’s a no-holds barred and savage affair, and the highest honour a comedian can by given by their peers.
