Jennifer Hudson to Capitalise Off SA?

There is speculation that actress Jennifer Hudson will possibly earn her second Oscar with ‘Winnie’, a biopic portraying the life of former SA president Nelson Mandela’s wife Winnie Mandela.

The film is said to be emphasising the fact that there is a great woman behind every great man. In the trailer, which was released on Tuesday, Winnie’s struggle with Apartheid during Nelson’s imprisonment is depicted, and it appears that the film is about an amazingly strong woman.

Many South Africans not happy with Winnie’s more controversial side will be pleased to know the film also deals with her alleged involvement in several human rights abuses, including the kidnapping of a 14-year-old ANC activist named Stompie Moeketsi in 1988 who was murdered.

The film has not had a lot of love from the critics, however, but that has never stopped an actor from winning an Academy Award.

Old Wounds Resurface For Theron

Old wounds are coming back to haunt South Africa’s Hollywood star Charlize Theron following a brutal murder in her former Benoni home last weekend.

Barry Newland was tortured and later killed by five burglars after they had falsely indicated that they were looking to purchase a car off of him.

The Benoni house was also the scene of Theron’s father’s death in 1991. Charles Theron was killed by Charlize’s mother Gerda Maritz in self defence after he had threatened both mother and daughter.

Of her father’s death, Charlize said in the past: ‘I think, for me, it took a long time to sink in, what had really happened because you just don’t think stuff like that will ever happen to you.’

News of the current police investigation into Newland’s murder would have reached Charlize by now – we just hope she is able to handle the news well.

The Demands Of Being Bond

James Bond actor Daniel Craig has revealed that it is tough to maintain his clean ’007′ image.

Craig admits that all he wants to do is get drunk in public, but admits he can no longer do that with the high standards which come with being Bond.

Craig revealed to Vanity Fair magazine: ‘You talk to people in the movie business who have been doing this 40 years and they all say the difference is that, back in the day, you could go and have a drink in the bar, get drunk, fall over, have a good time, relax, whatever, and no one would know about it.

‘But now everyone’s got a camera. Not that all I want to do is get drunk in a bar, but that’s an example.

‘So you can’t live a normal life anymore. Because it will become public knowledge that you’ve gotten drunk in a bar or skinny-dipped on a beach or something.’

He added: ‘I’ve got to be high class. I’ve done a lot of things in my life. But you have to think in that way. Which is sad, because I like bars.

‘It’s amazing how many times I’ve sat in interviews like this in a bar or a hotel, and it’s 11 o’clock in the morning and someone sends a martini over.

‘And it’s like, ‘Really? It’s 11 o’clock! Cheers! I’m not going to drink it’.’

Heidi’s Deal with the Devil

Ex-reality TV star Heidi Montag has signed a lucrative deal worth £15,500 with a strip club – cash that will go a long way to helping her and husband Spencer Pratt in their rent-free life in his parents’ house.

The former ‘The Hills’ star will, however, not be baring any of her surgically-enhanced assets on Crazy Horse III’s stage, much to the chagrin of many who appreciate her efforts in 2010 to perfect her body.

The star is actually merely hosting the club’s third anniversary celebration, and her husband will be going along for the ride.

Heidi has desperately been trying to launch her music career, spending millions recording her own songs for a seemingly fanless void: her first album sold less than 1,000 copies in its first week.

Maybe there is something in strip clubs for her after all…

Ban Him! Ban Him, We Say!

The SABC have made some rather strange moves in the past, but their latest stunt is sure to turn more heads than usual.

The public broadcaster had reportedly banned all of their radio stations from conducting interviews with newly-crowned Idols champion Khaya Mthethwa – the first black individual to claim the prize.

No explanation has been given by the SABC, with Idols judge and Metro FM presenter Unathi Msengana baffled by the request which she received from her boss.

‘This morning [Wednesday] an instruction was personally given to me by my station manager not to interview Khaya. No explanation was given. I had to obey and ask no questions because he is my boss,’ Msengana told Sowetan.

However, the broadcaster moved to flat out deny that their was a ban in place on the singing sensation, with spokesman Kaizer Kganyago slamming Unathi for speaking out of turn and spreading rumours.

He said: ‘This is not true and it is ridiculous. We did not issue instructions like that. To start with, Unathi is not even supposed to comment to the media. I am the SABC spokesperson.

‘Secondly she is even conflicted by working on Idols when she works for SABC. We had Khaya on Chriselda Kananda’s show last week.’

In something of a twist in the matter, Sowetan contacted Kganyago again to clear things up and the spokesman decided to change his tune.

‘We decided that Unathi and Gareth do not interview Khaya because they were conflicted. This is clearly a conflict of interests. Idols belongs to another station,’ he added.

Got a little egg on your face there, SABC…

No Green Ahead Of Pink Or Blue

With a baby on the way, rapper Wiz Khalifa has decided to stop smoking marijuana around his pregnant girlfriend, Amber Rose.

However, the choice is not for the well-being of his child, but more because Rose cannot stand his habit.

The 25-year-old told MTV News: ‘I smoke outside instead of inside. Everything is all about smells, man. If the smell irritates her, then it gotta go.’

Wiz was later drilled about baby names, with the tattooed performer admitting that it is not an easy decision to make.

He added: ‘We’re working on it. You know how difficult that is.

‘But it’s all good, though. I let her have her way all the time; that’s my baby.’

We are with you on the marijuana thing, Amber… but that is only because you are nicer to look at than Wiz.

From Nun to Playboy?

Former Playboy model Jenny McCarthy wanted to be a nun.

The sexy model was brought up in a very strict Catholic household, and she had always dreamed of being a nun and devoting her life to God because she wanted ‘to hang out with Jesus and his buddies’.

But she changed her mind when she found out that, as a nun, she could not have any children – she badly wanted to be a mother. McCarthy, who has 10-year-old son Evan with John Asher, her former husband, said: ‘I knew in my soul that even though I wanted to go to heaven, I yearned to be a mom more than anything in the world.’

We’re not certain how she took the jump from Nun to Playboy model, since the latter might not be considered the ideal role model for a child, but she added: ‘Even though I didn’t become a nun and have done my fair share of sinning, I’ve come to realise that you can still fight for justice and truth without having to wear a habit. I just chose to wear a push-up bra instead.’

Indeed she did, and the world’s Playboy fans are much happier for it.

The Fountain of Youth – A Long Way Away?

‘The X-Factor’ and former ‘American Idol’ host Simon Cowell is reportedly constantly searching for the cure to aging.

The music producer is apparently currently addicted to using sheep placenta facials on his quest to find the combination that keeps his skin young and fresh the best.

After trying everything from vitamin injections and detoxes to smoothies and even Botox, he insists that slathering placenta all over his face is the best solution he’s found, giving him the youthful glow his long hours and smoking continue to take away.

We can only wonder about the smell…

‘Off With Your Head!’

Following a bitter exchange of nasty words and threats, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj appear to have kissed and made up.

The feud kicked off earlier this week when Minaj lost her cool with Carey for making her feel ‘inadequate’ during the auditions phase of American Idols.

Minaj first called Carey ‘boring as f**k’, before threatening ‘off with your head!’. The show’s hierarchy were left red-faced by the incident, but are now said to be relieved with the truce.

A source close to Carey told TMZ: ‘She’s not going to let this faze her now – the outbursts won’t faze her. She’ll handle [it] with poise and grace. Mariah has dealt with far worse in her career.’

Whether or not the pair actually like each other now remains to be seen, but that outburst is sure to increase interest in the singing competition.

Tired of Being a Skinny White Girl?

Tabloids have literally been screaming about Christina Aguilera’s recent weight gain. Metro reported that the ‘Genie In a Bottle’ singer told Billboard magazine she was ‘tired of being a skinny white girl’ but that she’d had enough, and told her label representatives, ‘You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it’.

However, it would appear that she never commented about her weight to the Billboard magazine at all. Aguilera’s representative says: ‘She never said them.’

The quote could not be found on Billboard’s online or print issue, and sources are claiming that the quote came from a reblogged post on Tumblr.

Aguilera does seem to be pleased about her curvier figure though. She told Lucky Magazine: ‘Actually, the challenge I’ve always had is being too thin, so I love that now I have a booty, and obviously I love showing my cleavage.’

Many a plump lady can be heartened that she appears to be proud to of being a little curvier, and she also told Lucky, ‘Hey, if you can work it and you can own it, that confidence is going to shine through.’
