In this edition of Roll Call, Miranda Kerr laughs off talk of her cheating, Hugh Jackman does something extreme and Holly Madison is having a tough time with her pregnancy…
Hugh Jackman went without water for 36 hours before filming the opening scene in ‘Les Miserables’.
The Australian actor takes on the role of Jean Valjean in the big screen adaptation of the hit musical and he admits he had to go to extreme measures to look like a starving prisoner at the beginning of the movie before piling the pounds back on as Valjean made a success of his life on the outside world.
Speaking at the world premiere of ‘Les Miserables’ at London’s Odeon Leicester Square cinema, Hugh told BANG Showbiz: ‘I had to lose a lot of weight, so I went on a very strict diet. I even went without water for 36 hours before I filmed the opening scene. And then after that, I put on weight. I was training every day.’
In the movie, Russell Crowe plays Valjean’s arch-enemy, Javert, and Hugh said he loved every moment of working with Russell, especially as they have a lot of history together.
He said: ‘I’ve known for Russell for years. If you ever go to a party thrown by Russell you end up singing so we had a lot of practice! But it was great working with him and he’s one of the world’s greatest actors. I love him.’
Other stars to walk the red carpet at the premiere included Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron-Cohen.

Miranda Kerr and Leonardo DiCaprio have laughed off rumours they recently enjoyed a flirty night out.
The Victoria’s Secret model – who has been married to actor Orlando Bloom since 2010 and gave birth to their first child, Flynn, in 2011 – was said to have been spotted flirting up a storm with the ‘Inception’ actor at the New York nightclub Rosewood last Friday, but a source close to the 29-year-old beauty insists they are just ‘really good friends.’
A source told gossip website RadarOnline.com: ‘Miranda and Leo are really good friends, been friends for years. It was a PG -13 fun night. … It was one big table [of people] … dancing on top of the banquette.’
Another insider insisted that all is well between the Australian beauty and her British husband, who is currently shooting his latest film ‘Zulu’ in London.
The source said: ‘Miranda is visiting Orlando this weekend in London, and all the rumours about them having trouble are much ado about nothing.’
Miranda was spotted partying with Leonardo, 38, and a group of their other celebrity pals including Cameron Diaz and Naomi Campbell’s billionaire boyfriend Vladimir Doronin.
Leonardo recently broke up with Miranda’s close pal Erin Heatherton after a year of dating.

Jessica Simpson is reportedly concerned her mother is drinking too much.
The ‘Fashion Star’ mentor – whose parents Tina and Joe announced they had filed for divorce after 35 years of marriage last month amid rumours her father is gay – is said to be worried her mother is drowning her sorrows with alcohol and has urged her to seek help.
A source told Star magazine: ‘Tina is hitting the bottle to ease her sorrows over her marital problems, she’s built up quite a tolerance and has switched from wine to stuff like scotch and vodka.
‘Jess is just a mess over this, she feels helpless and doesn’t know what to do.’
Jessica is said to have recently skipped her nephew’s birthday to avoid her dad as she can’t stand to be in the same room as him.
A source previously said: ‘One of her girlfriends says it’s because she doesn’t want to be anywhere near her dad.
Another insider also revealed: ‘Joe has been respectfully turning up at NBC at times he knows Jessica won’t be there, It’s the only way that it could have worked, because Jessica is struggling to work with him around her.
‘Jessica comes in, fulfills her work requirements and leaves, and then Joe comes in later to check in with producers and conduct any meetings that are needed.
‘Jessica just doesn’t want any awkward run-ins with him and doesn’t feel comfortable with him being around her right now.

LeAnn Rimes has been accused of having a ‘severe eating disorder’.
The 30-year-old ‘How Do I Live’ singer – who went to rehab for 30 days because she wanted to learn how to properly cope with her anxiety and stress – allegedly isn’t fit to be around her step-sons, according to their mother Brandy Glanville, who claims her son Mason, nine, was ‘extremely ill’ after accidentally ingesting one of LeAnn’s laxatives.
The ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’, 40, star – who was previously married to LeAnn’s husband Eddie Cibrian with whom she shares sons, Mason, nine and Jake, five, – told USMagazine.com: ‘I, unfortunately, don’t find her to be stable and I don’t want her around my kids when Eddie’s not there – or at least the nanny, his parents, someone.
‘Mason, my eldest, ate some of Le’s candies and got extremely ill. And Le’s candies are laxatives. It was a big f**king deal for me, and I lost my mind.
‘LeAnn has a severe eating disorder. She has one (a laxative) in every purse. Mason found it on the floor and thought it was a Skittle! They don’t keep sugar in the house. He thought he finally found candy.
‘He gets extremely sick, and that freaks me the f**k out. Mason told me about it, and then Eddie’s assistant, who was working for me at the time, also told me about it out of concern for my children. I emailed, emailed, called, called – no answers. Couldn’t even discuss it. He refuses to even be in the same room as me. He can’t have a parent-teacher conference if I’m there. I don’t know how to do this when I can’t talk to the father of my children and his new wife. I don’t know what to do.’
LeAnn’s spokesperson denied the allegations and said: ‘Just more inaccuracies and half-truths.’
Her husband Eddie, 39, also issued a statement in support of the singer and called Brady’s accusations ‘ridiculous’.
He said: ‘My wife, LeAnn, continues to be a loving and positive influence on the lives of my sons. They are without a doubt lucky to have her.’

Naomi Watts says playing Princess Diana was the ‘hardest thing’ she’s ever done.
The 44-year-old actress takes on the role of the late royal in new movie ‘Diana’ and she admits recreating such an iconic and beloved figure was a very daunting task.
She said: ‘Playing Princess Diana was the hardest thing I’ve done. Because of the pressure of everyone’s beliefs about who she was and the fact that it was just really hard to claim her as my own, since everybody feels they know her.’
Naomi also says she was keen to channel Diana – who died in a Paris car crash in 1997 – rather than mimic her, as any attempt to impersonate her speech and physical behaviour would detract from the performance.
Speaking to Manhattan magazine, she said: ‘I don’t want to get caught up in mimicry – that’s the worst thing. I was to try to embody her and get the essence of her. Those things are really important to me.’
Naomi also admits she was scared about people comparing her to Diana, who had two sons, Princes William and Harry, with ex-husband Prince Charles.
She said: ‘I was afraid of the comparison that comes with playing any iconic figure – and because of her memory – we’re fond of her memory.
‘And the way she died … Is it going to open it all up again? We’re certainly not trying to upset the boys, though they’re men now. I hope they’re OK with it.’
Diana’s eldest son Prince William, 30, this week announced he and his wife Duchess Catherine are expecting their first child together.

Carmen Electra is ‘yearning’ for a baby.
The former ‘Baywatch’ star is yet to become a mother and admits she often feels broody and wishes she had a child to care for.
When asked if her biological clock is ticking, the twice-married beauty said: ‘I definitely have that yearning, absolutely. It is the only thing I haven’t done in life. I had such a strong bond and connection with my mother who has passed away. I do yearn for that connection again. We’ll see what happens.’
Carmen – who has been on several dates with Simon Cowell in recent months – turned 40 in April and she insists she didn’t freak out about hitting the milestone age.
Instead, the ‘Scary Movie’ actress is embracing the next decade of her life and insists she wouldn’t want to re-live her younger days.
In an interview with FOX411, she said: ‘To be honest (turning 40) has been amazing. I wouldn’t change it for the world. I wouldn’t go back in time. I love where I am right now. I feel happy. Some people say, ‘You look better now then you did then.’ I take that to heart and live on that positivity. I love that.’

Ariel Winter’s mother reportedly tried to get a Hollywood publicist to create a nude photo scandal.
The ‘Modern Family’ star’s mother Chrisoula Workman – who lost guardianship of her 14-year-old actress daughter amid allegations of physical and emotional abuse last month – allegedly tried to get publicist Jonathan Hay to leak naked pictures of her other daughter Shanelle Workman, 34, who was given temporary custody of Ariel.
The PR guru told gossip website RadarOnline.com: ‘Crystal Workman, the mother of Ariel Winter, wanted me to represent her and leak nude photos in the media of her other daughter Shanelle Workman.
‘In all my years of being a publicist, I have never seen anyone stoop as low as wanting to sell out and destroy the reputation of her own daughter. Crystal said she wanted the public to see Shanelle for who she really was and smear her daughter in attempts to try and get custody back of Ariel.
‘Crystal has called me nonstop in the last 48 hours, trying to get me to leak these pictures. Clearly, Ariel is in the right place with Shanelle and away from her mother.’
Crystal reportedly said she is only trying to do what is best for her daughter Ariel.
She said: ‘I love my daughter Ariel and I am trying to make sure she doesn’t fall under the wrong influences so she doesn’t become the next Lindsay Lohan.’

Presley Is Worried About The World
Priscilla Presley thinks ‘The Simpsons’ should be banned because ‘it’s not good for kids’.
The 67-year-old actress is not a fan of the animated TV show, which sees Homer and his dysfunctional family get into numerous escapades, because she believes it’s content does not promote good morals.
When asked what she would do if she was ‘Queen of Everything’ in an interview with Stylist magazine, she said: ‘I’d have to ban ‘The Simpsons’. It’s not good for people’s moral compass. It’s OK for adults as we can put it all together but it’s not good for kids and I think we need to bring back something more family orientated like ‘Leave It To Beaver’ that I used to watch when I was growing up.’
Priscilla – who is playing the Wicked Queen in pantomime ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ in London this month – is also worried about the decline of religion in Western society and is concerned about the amount of children being raised by divorced parents.
The ‘Naked Gun’ star – who was married to late rock ‘n’ roll legend Elvis Presley, who she separated from in 1972 and divorced in 1973 after six years of marriage – believes kids with parents and step-parents are getting mixed moral messages.
Priscilla explained: ‘We’re in trouble. Churches are going, religious leaders are being attacked. I do think we need guidance because we’re in trouble right now for not having any. It’s the same with parents. When we’re growing up it’s our parents who we look to to give us guidance, the morals, the ethics, the standards. I find that because kids are being raised by multiple parents with the divorce rate as high as it is, everyone is thinking differently.’
Priscilla’s daughter Lisa Marie Presley – her only child with Elvis – has been divorced three times after marriages to Danny Keough, Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage all failed.
Lisa Marie now lives in East Sussex, England with her husband, guitarist Michael Lockwood, and their four-year-old twin girls Harper and Finley and Lisa’s two children.
Lisa also has two grown up sons, Riley and Benjamin from her first marriage to musician Danny.

Holly Madison has revealed she has been suffering from severe morning sickness.
The reality TV star – who is expecting her first child with her boyfriend Pasquale Rotella in March – was hospitalised on Monday because she is suffering from a similar illness to Duchess Catherine despite being in the late stages of her pregnancy.
The former ‘The Girls Next Door’ star told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: ‘When it started happening really late [in my pregnancy] and I was really vomiting a lot during the day, it freaked me out. I was told to go to the doctor and get an IV and everything. So, that was kind of scary to me just because it seemed like something so unusual, something that I hadn’t read about. But everything’s OK so far, so that’s good.’
The 33-year-old model said she hopes that Duchess Catherine is also on the mend after she was hospitalised with hyperemesis gravidarum, an acute form of morning sickness in recent days.
She said: ‘I wish her the best and I’m glad she’s getting the best possible care and I’m super excited for her. I think everybody wants to see [the baby] named Diana if it’s a girl. I think that would melt the hearts of the world.’
Holly – who previously dated Hugh Hefner, 86, – is hoping the rest of her pregnancy will go more smoothly.
She said: ‘I’m excited to get through these last months of pregnancy. Hopefully no more scares.
‘I was threatened with bed rest. I haven’t been given bed rest yet, but they’re like, ‘You better take it easy and don’t lift anything over 5 lbs.”

Lily Allen wants another girl so she doesn’t have to buy new clothes.
The pregnant pop star already has a 13-month-old daughter Ethel with husband Sam Cooper, and she hopes the couple’s new baby – due this month – is a girl, too, so she can wear her sister’s old outfits.
The cost-effective ‘Smile’ singer told the Daily Express newspaper: ‘Fingers crossed it’s a girl. Then I can dress her in leftovers from the last baby. That’s important. I don’t want to have to buy anything new.’
Heavily pregnant Lily, 27, hit the red carpet at the British Fashion Awards last week in a floor-length navy blue A.L.C. gown and offered her top tip for dressing a baby bump.
She joked: ‘Just don’t leave the house, basically.’
Lily – who celebrated daughter Ethel’s first birthday on November 25 – recently commented on her pregnancy, saying she felt like she had an alien growing inside of her.
She tweeted: ‘Alien, inside me. #weird (sic)’
