So many red carpet looks, so little time! Resident style expert, Miss Buttons, breaks down the year that’s been in celebrity fashion hits and misses.
She nailed it
To be honest all I know about Emma Stone is that she’s a really quirky actress that I loved in Superbad. If I loved her before, I’m completely besotted with her now! From red carpet chic to pavement strolls she looked amazing in 2012. She loved playing with colour and was spotted in anything from lemon to lilac. What’s her secret ingredient? Confidence!
She made them look
Solange Knowles pays homage to her African roots in her very own, stylish way! She’s not afraid to wear bold colour and throws it together tres tastefully. Maybe I’m biased because she teamed up with the uber cool, rising SA star, Anisa Mpungwe of Loin Cloth and Ashes for a shoot in NYC. Between the Afro, her super style and SA designer collaboration, Solange Knowles clearly put herself on the radar last year.
Cover Girl
There is no denying the flutter and frenzy Nicole Kidman’s behind caused on the cover of V magazine worldwide. Who would have thought that one tiny heinie could travel across pins, boards, posts and tweets. The cover was shot by Mario Testino and styled by Carlyne Cerf De Duozeele, whom I’m guessing will now be eternally referred to as, the makers of that ‘ass shot’. Even though the usually demure and conservative Kidman is topless on the cover, one’s eye is drawn directly to her perky rump.
Red Carpet Knock-Outs
Canary-yellow was 2012 or 2012 was canary-yellow, either way I’m glad it’s over. When Julie Bowen from Modern Family arrived at the 2012 Emmy’s wearing Monique Lhuiller’s neon version, fright turned to fabulous as she carried off the piece with pure Californian chic. It was a beautiful moment for her and she looked radiant. She’s the only person I clearly remember from last year’s award season.
And then there was Adele. Remember a world without that voice? Morning traffic, break-ups and plus size clothing will never be the same. She looked jaw droppingly gorgeous at the Grammy’s in a floor length Armani Prive gown, subdued make-up with a Marilyn Monroe red lip and well defined eye. The billboard darling has taken some serious flack from them up tight bunch and in pure, honest Adele style she retorts: “I enjoy being me; I always have done. I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, you know, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down. And I just don’t want that in my life.” Now that’s a role model…
And who got it SO wrong…
Who could forget Angelina Jolie’s (now infamous) “leg dress” at the Oscars? Of all the dresses, in all the world, why? Jolie has the vixen vibe down but seriously, she looked like she had a prosthetic on. Joan Rivers tried to convince that perhaps “the leg” was a meaningful accessory. I don’t know about you but I’m not convinced…
