The beginning of a new month often signifies change or fresh starts for some people, but for us, this July means one thing; The beginning of the newest season of SA Idols! We've been fans since the first season of the popular reality show (Remember Heinz Winkler edging out Brandon October?). The show has been exciting down the years and last year's climatic finale saw Musa Sukwene crowned as 2013's South African Idol.
We're hoping for just as fast paced and exciting a season this time round; but let's not lie, one of the most enjoyable parts of every Idols season is the audition phase. We're just hoping that some people don't repeat the same mistakes (Or create their own mistakes!) with their audition song this time. We've decided to list the five songs we really hope people do NOT choose to sing during this year's audition rounds!
1. Killing Me Softly - The Fugees
We wonder how many extra sales The Fugees have managed in recent years thanks to the Idols series. It seems as if their smash hit Killing me Softly has become an unofficial Idols Audition Anthem; but please take our advice and STAY AWAY FROM THIS SONG. Not only have the judges heard it way too many times, but it's actually quite a difficult song to nail. It's not going to get you far, it's unoriginal... it's not a winner. Sorry guys.
2. If I Ain't Got You- Alicia Keys
This is one of our favorite Alicia Keys songs, but wow, it sounds AWFUL when it's not nailed. If you're not coming in to the audition with an instrument, we'd strongly recommend you stay away from If I Ain't Got You. The shift between the verse and the chorus is not pretty when you don't have the vocal capacity for it.
3. #SELFIE - The Chain Smokers
Do we need to tell you why this isn't a viable song for an Idols Audition? *Sigh*. There is 100% NO singing in this smash hit by The Chainsmokers. What are you going to do during the minute of music after she says "Let me take a selfie"? Save this one for your YouTube channel guys!
4. Any Whitney Houston Song Ever Recorded.
Just stay away.
5. Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen
There aren't many people who can do justice to Freddie Mercury's amazing vocals on this song. When we say "There aren't many people" we're thinking of the 4-5 best vocalists in the world (Including Pink and Adam Lambert). For everybody else we'd like to advise that you please do not try this song at home or in public. We will not be held responsible for your injuries and the injuries of others.
Which other songs would you recommend people stay away from at this year's Idols Auditions? Leave us your thoughts in the comments section below!
