A woman's best relationship

Kim Schulze talks about the (often painful!) search for the perfect beauty therapist...

It’s every woman’s dream and nightmare, rolled into one; that seemingly life-long search for the perfect person. We start testing them out at about 14 years old, and once we start, it’s like a never-ending battle to find the perfect match. Someone who listens to you, understands you and your needs – what you need to get out of the relationship.

Well, I have to boastfully pronounce that I have found it. That person who’s there for me at the last minute, and who never forgets when we set a date. That person who knows what I want every time, and never screws up.  The person who’s used to you, your body and how to treat it.

Oh yes, I’ve searched for years to find the perfect beauty therapist. I’ve been lucky enough to not have one of those horror stories – I mean, crikey, when sh*t goes wrong in that department, it goes proper WRONG. Let’s just say a friend of mine once walked out with a half-fro. In the southern regions. Ahem.

The reason I bring this up is because I’ve discovered that NOT all women spend ages hopping from therapist to therapist, trying to find a good one. They spend ages flat-bed-hopping because they’re too embarrassed to stay with one long enough to develop a relationship. Seriously – “she’s seen my vagina, I can never go back there!” Do you know how many women are going to have seen your vagina when you’ve exhausted every spa in town? You’re the whore of the somotology world.

I would have thought the perks were obvious, but alas, they aren’t to everyone. The first one being that the more regularly you use the same therapist, the better she gets to know “things”. How quickly your hair grows, how stubborn it is, how sensitive your skin is etc. She knows which parts of your face need specific products. Your treatments are so much more effective when a therapist knows what she’s dealing with. Secondly, it’s very possible the spa you frequent will have specials and loyalty bonuses. Sometimes not even officially, the therapist will give you a discount or a free treatment for being a loyal client. As with most things, loyalty pays off. On top of that, you get the bonus BONUS of becoming more and more comfortable. It becomes less awkward each time, much like getting naked with your boyfriend. Or the gym. You get used to the person, they’re used to you – and probably much worse – so there’s less to be worried and tense about.

I can’t think of a good reason to constantly change your facialist, waxer or even nail specialist. Don’t you want to know what you’re getting?

I know relationships are scary, but I urge you to find the right person for you and commit to them. Life will be so much easier.
