Andy Murray created history by winning Wimbledon this Sunday Afternoon, and by doing so, becoming the first Briton to win the world's most famous tennis tournament in over 77 years. And he did so in the most astonishing manner possible, by providing the 15000strong crowd with an accomplished performance over the world number one, Novak Djokovic.
On the win, Murray said:
"Winning Wimbledon, I can't get my head around that. I still can't believe it's happened,"
"I think that last game will be the toughest I'll play in my career."
"It was so tough, it was so hot as well. I hadn't played any matches in the heat of the day,"
Murray, who, for a long time, has been the story of defeats and "choking" in grandslam finals, noted how perseverance has been the story of his career. And even on the court on Sunday, when it looked as if he might be susceptible to yet another "choke" on the grand stage, Murray held his nerve and delivered a tennis performance he will be happy to tell his grand children of.
Andy Murray beat Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 to claim his first ever Wimbledon title.
