People may think that radio presenters only work 2 or 3 hours a day. That’s the biggest misconception and myth. There are no public holidays or closing hours. It’s 24/7 entertainment 365 days a year. Anyone who has worked or is working in radio will know that you can’t explain the buzz one gets from switching on that microphone. It’s magic and it’s something that 5fm’s Nicole Da Silva and I chat about often. Our love of radio, our love of music, the energy, the vibe, the creativity – it gets our blood pumping.
In order for us to keep the energy and creativity flowing, we also need some R&R.
Yesterday, I bumped into Nicole in Cape Town – she’s on a very well deserved holiday. Anyone who can get up before the sun and entertain an audience on 5fm between 4-6am with a smile on her face; deserves a great holiday!
Talk about right time, right place – I had just been invited onto a friends boat for a sunset cruise. I quickly made Nicole reschedule her foot massage appointment and we headed to the harbor together.
Yet again, it’s amazing to see what a beautiful country we live in. We drank wine, took in the breathtaking sights of Clifton, the 12 Apostles, we watched seals play in the ocean and watched the sun slowly disappear beyond the horizon, whilst painting the sky pinks, oranges and purples.
It was great to see you Nicole – enjoy the rest of your holiday!
