This is a specifically impressive achievement for Boity, who leaped into the number one spot after not even featuring on the list last year. With over 160 000 Facebook followers and more than 180 000 Twitter fans, Boity is followed on the list by musician Elvis Blue in second place, and Minnie Dlamini in third.
“Once I realised it was true, I was overwhelmed with intense emotions of excitement. I couldn’t believe it! This is huge!” said an overwhelmed Boity, according to Media Update.
Commenting on the impressive achievement, Heat editor Andre Neveling said: “Boity’s bubbly personality is infectious, so it’s no wonder her rise to fame has been so fast. In a short space of time, she’s managed to gather a massive fan base who came out to support her in the heat Hot 100 this year.”
Taking to her Twitter account after the announcement, she tweeted: “Jeepers! 1st place in the Heat Hot 100??! That's ridiculous!!! Thank you sooooooooooo much to the people who voted & to @heatSouthAfrica”
Boity co-hosted SABC1 youth reality series ‘Zoned’ in 2012, and also played Mpho Bogatsu in television drama series ‘Rockville’.
