Brazil beat Spain to clinch Confederations Cup
Brazil were crowned kings of the Confederations Cup in front of their home fans after beating the World Champions, Spain.
Spain began the tournament as favorites, however the Brazilians out played their Spanish counterparts, scoring 3 goals in the process.
A fantastic Neymar finish, sandwiched between 2 Fred goals gave the Samba boys all they needed to beat the World and European champions. A missed penalty from Sergio Ramos further compounded Spain’s Misery.
At the end of the game, Barcelona newboy, Neymar, was awarded the “Golden Ball” award, the importance of which he was quick to dispel. In his opinion the whole team deserved it because of their consistent performances.
This strong performance in the Confederations Cup will fill Brazil with confidence ahead of next year’s World Cup on their home soil. Scolari has finally got the team clicking, and with a full year to further prepare it would be difficult to write the Brazilians off.
Earlier in the day, Italy won the bronze medal after beating Uruguay on penalties. The match ended in a 2-2 draw before Italy sealed the victory in a penalty shoot out.
