Urban Enzo:
Calling himself a lifestyle influencer with an interest in fashion and travel, Ensly introduces us to his world:
What does a work-day entail for you in-between blogging and your 9-5?
I don’t have those as I never know what my day will behold. I wear different hats throughout my day, from being a PR professional, Social Media Manager for various brands, a digital strategist and then managing my own brand. My day is 24 hours of constant online interaction so somewhere in my time I make time to keep on trend and blog.
Can you recall any major hurdles you faced when starting out your blog?
For me, it was standing out from the crowd. With so many bloggers starting out, I had to make sure that I am unique and that I create a fan base that appreciates and recognizes me. The initial work of being known is always the hardest.
What three tips would you give new bloggers starting out in terms of social media?
• Have a Plan
• Take your content seriously and only put out the best
• Know your brand and do not confuse your followers by saying or doing something that is not a part of your online image.
What or who is your inspiration and what are your fashion staples when it comes to personal style?
My sense of style is not inspired by anyone. I just like to look good with clothes I like- preferably anything from Zara, Jonathan D or Topman. I love wearing tailored blazers and I think that’s my thing now. I am also a fan of an international street wear, be it through my snapbacks, sneakers or jackets. I buy most of my clothes online. I just like to feel comfortable but it’s cool that people recognize my style. I also feel that everyone should have their unique item of clothes that defines them.
What are your plans for “Urban Enzo” this year?
I will be focusing on my travels with #AdventuresOfTheLoneBoyTraveller. I am planning on visiting a few African Countries. I am also aspiring to inspire with my content I put out. There’s a bunch of stuff that will be happening this year for Urban Enzo.

What does a work-day entail for you in-between blogging and your 9-5?
I wish my work-day was from 9-5! Most days I start off with a few meetings with my creative team while shoving Pronutro into my mouth. Then I generally check my mails for anything urgent and settle down into writing blogs, content plans, helping with ideas and brainstorming. I’m pretty pedantic about what I spend my time with at work. You should see my to do list.
The industry you are in affords you the opportunity to meet and work with some fabulous and respected names. Is there anyone that stands out in particular for you?
I interviewed Richard Branson once so that was awesome. I think what I love most is the ‘normal/everyday’ people I get to meet. Their stories and personalities always stand out more!
Any major hurdles your faced in the first few years when starting out your blog?
Blogging in South Africa is quite a niche community, breaking into that was pretty hard. Also getting brands to recognize my blog was also pretty hard, I think this is still one of my biggest hurdles.
Let’s talk fashion! What do we still lack locally to be recognized globally?
I think South Africa is on par with global fashion trends in that we have our very own style and often dictate our own trends. I often feel though that South Africans tend to lean towards the safe side of things when it comes to fashion…being a little daring never hurt anyone.
Any tips you’d like to share with new bloggers in terms of social media?
1. Take time to read up on tried and tested methods on growing your following don’t reinvent the wheel!
2. Interact with your fans ALWAYS!
3. Make sure all your social platforms have some sort of synergy with regards to names, tone and content
It’s been said (and seen) that you have an edgy cool eclectic style. What or who is your inspiration and what are your fashion staples when it comes to personal style?
People do say this, now at least. In school I was always the weirdo dressed in strange clothes, I guess, as I grew up people just came to appreciate it more. I wouldn’t say any one person inspires me but I do always do try keep a classic feel of sorts. I really love socks and leggings…and dresses, skirts t-shirts, gloves, shoes…okay so I don’t have any staples really because I like lots of everything, but I black pair of brogues never hurt anyone.
2014 plans for your blog?
I’m going to start doing even more JHB based projects and I have some exciting things coming up with Angie from Lucky Pony. All will be revealed soon!
