Brody Jenner joins the Kardashian clan
Hunky reality TV star and actor Brody Jenner is the latest addition to the popular E! Entertainment reality TV show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians. With season eight set to premier in SA this weekend, ZAlebs reporter Clayton Morar spoke to 29-year-old Brody to find out more about the upcoming season and his on-and-off relationship with his dad, Bruce Jenner.
Why did you decide to be a part of the new season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians?
My dad and I haven't really had a great relationship over the years and recently, we started to connect again – but this happened off camera. When it was time to film season eight of the show, both my dad and the show's producers asked me if I was keen to explore our relationship on camera and document it. I gave it some thought and decided to do it.
Describe your relationship with Bruce . . .
I was raised by mother Linda Thompson and step-dad David Foster (musical composer to some of the biggest artists on the planet), so Bruce and I didn't actually have a father-son connection as much while growing up. I always wanted answers from my dad and why he wasn’t a part of my life from early on. Since agreeing to be a part of the show, our relationship has improved so much and we really get along now. I know him so much better now and these days my dad now says 'I love you' at the end of our calls – it's amazing how things have changed in our relationship for the better.
Was it difficult for you to have your personal issues with your dad explored on TV?
We both have different personalities and because we've clashed in the past, having cameras around us really made us confront the issues we both were holding inside. It forced us to talk about issues that we would have never have talked about.
What's the difference between being a reality star on MTV's The Hills and Keeping Up With The Kardashians?
On The Hills, it was acting in a way. Here on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, everything is real. It's not something we're acting out at all because I am just engaging with my family. There's no retakes or dramatization of events and what you see and hear out of my mouth.
So what can we expect from this season?
I get to spend a lot of time with Rob and my dad. Rob and I have been hanging out a lot and doing things together in our spare time. Of course, I spend a lot of time with my Kardashian sisters too. Khloe is such a loyal person and very honest and Kim and I really get along great too. It's great to be a part of such a large family and I am enjoying reconnecting with them all.
Keeping Up With The Kardashian starts Sunday 21 July on E! Entertainment (DStv Channel 124) at 9pm.
