Taking a look at some of the latest artists and bands to look out for in 2016.

Time to bring out some of our Bubbling Under potential - artists and bands who have caught our attention with their individual style and sound.

As the world becomes more globalised, and music genre lines become more blurred, there has been a growth in the development of fusion bands in Africa and the world.

Fusion is defined as a musical genre that developed in the late 1960s when musicians combined aspects of jazz harmony and improvisation with styles such as funk, rock, rhythm and blues, and Latin jazz.

New Creation SA is a South African band that does all of this and more. They incorporate hip-hop, urban sounds, gospel, and that something extra that elevates the band's status as one of South Africa’s rising stars to watch out for.

The name of the band, derived from the New Testament, literally means just that, a “new creation.” Its members comprise of Simon Tshukudu aka “Supa”, and brothers Teboho Tapisi “Tebza” and Moeketsi Tapisi “Mokzen". With a full live band to back them up, their passion for music is discernible as they send crowds into a frenzy every time they take the stage.

With numerous performances under their belt, and their hit song “Soweto” on rotation on radio, the band has big plans for this year. With artists such as AKA, who has revolutionised live performances and turned it into an art, this is one group that could definitely be nominated in the “Best Live Act” for the South African Music Awards.
