Welcome to another edition of #BubblingUnder. The exciting feature on ZAlebs that is sponsored by our good friends at Flying Fish. Each week, we set out on a mission to find some of the finest young talents in Mzansi who are making a name for themselves and producing quality pieces of work. In short, we're looking for people who are ADDING FLAVOUR to their industry. After all, there's no way we could be chilling with a brand as epic as Flying Fish and not looking to add some flavour.
We've already interviewed some of the most talented up and comers SA has to offer, and today we're here to introduce a fairly new kid on the local hip hop front, Zinzi Kahnish who is slowly but surely becoming a constant mention in many hip hop circles.
ZAlebs first had a whiff of her talents when she released her mixtape single titled Paranoia.
A year later, Zinzi not only has an E.P out but is signed to the one of the most respected Indy labels in the country, Native Rhythms.
ZAlebs caught up with Zinzi to hear what else she's been up to since the last time we spoke to her.
ZA: Zinzi, the last time we interviewed you, you made a statement that had a few hip hop heads a bit ruffled up. It's a year later since that interview, what are your comments now about that statement.
ZI: Actually that statement from me I’ll acknowledge that it was a bit immature from my side because I have nothing but respect for all MC’s in this hip hop game. And from the last time I was interviewed by ZAlebs I learned the art of obedience, especially within the industry we’re in. So I take back that comment and I apologized to everyone who felt disrespected by my comment but I still insist that I believe in my Art and in terms of who is the best in the industry, that's something that the audience should decide.
ZA: Your first single It’s about time, has been released and it’s been receiving raving reviews from hip hop scholars all over. Has this positive response convinced you that you’ve finally arrived?
ZI: Actually the response has made me really nervous but at the same time I’m glad that the response from the public has not only been positive but informative too. They didn’t just say the track is nice but they gave me a description of what exactly they liked about the song, from the beats to certain parts of my verses, that alone gives me a clear direction of where I’m going. I really do think it’s about time.
ZA: How has fame been treating you?
ZI: Aah dude, I'm not there yet. I can't even explain anything about fame right now, but I have been exposed to famous people during studio sessions at Native Rhythms and they're such a chilled out bunch. The other stunts are just for entertainment.
