This year has truly started with a bang for Cassper Nyovest. The Phumakim rapper had a night to remember when he walked away with five awards at the 2015 Metro FM Music Awards on Saturday evening in Durban. His awards included Best Male Album, Song of the Year for Doc Shebeleza, and Best Hit Single.
The rapper, who frequented the stage to collect his awards, seemed to be speechless most of the time. He thanked God and also thanked his fans for supporting him. He also took to Twitter to express his gratitude. He wrote: "God is good, all the time!!! Thank you for all your votes #MMA14."
He was also grateful to his industry colleagues who showed him love on social media. American rapper Talib Kweli, who collaborated with Nyovest on his Doc Shebeleza remix, tweeted: "@CassperNyovest and that's how it's done.” Meanwhile, SA rapper AKA simply tweeted "congratulations".
Riky Rick believes that Cassper is the biggest hip hop artist in the country. He wrote on the social networking site: "1..2...3....4................5 @CassperNyovest is the officially biggest hip hop artist to rock our country!"
Biggest rapper or not, but we can all agree that he probably has the greatest and most supportive fans in the country. It was really his time to shine.
Well done, Cassper. Thanks for taking SA hip hop to another level. Oh, and props to Metro FM for putting together a stunning show. What a great production. The hashtag #MMA14 even trended worldwide. Levels!
On Sunday morning, Cassper also posted this SMS conversation he had with his father on Facebook. In the message, Cassper's father encourages him to go get a minimum of 5 awards God has blessed him with. A couple of hours later Cassper collected exactly 5 awards his father had predicted he would receive.
