What's Hot: Cassper rants about Woolies' Pharrell campaign

The rapper feels that the retailer should have collaborated with a local artist instead.

Err... It looks as if Mzansi's favourite rapper right now,  Cassper Nyovest is not really feeling Woolworths and Pharrell's campaign.

Last week, the retailer announced that it had collaborated with the American singer on a new project that's aimed at changing the lives of school kids in South Africa. Pharrell will also be coming to Mzansi in September to perform at an exclusive concert where up to 5000 Woolies customers will be able to watch the multi-talented musician live. We were at the launch event last week and we were able to speak to AKA, Minnie Dlamini, Nandi Mngoma and Bonang who were all excited for this campaign. In fact, we thought everyone would have been excited by this news.

However, as you know, you can't please everybody and Cassper Nyovest is one of those who are unimpressed. The Doc Shebeleza rapper feels that corporates like Woolworths should collaborate with local designers and artists instead of bringing Pharrell

He added that, as much as he's a fan of Pharrell's, he thinks it's time "we fight for more local content everywhere, not just radio but fashion too".

And, he doesn't seem too happy about the fact that money is leaving the country.

He also believes that local acts are not united.

Meanwhile, AKA feels that Woolies has done a lot of campaigns with local artists and designers.

He also has some advice for those who've appointed themselves as the "voice" for local artists.

Well then, there you have it. AKA has spoken!

Either way, it doesn't look like Cassper Nyovest is the only person who thinks that Woolworths should have worked with a local artist. Read what local designer David Tlale had to say about Woolworths and Pharrell's collabo.
