The Durban Fashion Fair launch took place on Thursday night and we take a look at what went down.

On Thursday, 17 July, fashion enthusiasts gathered at the Suncoast Hotel for the launch of the Durban Fashion Fair (DFF), hosted by the eThekwini municipality.

MC for the evening was bubbly Isidingo actress and Metro FM host, Pearl Thusi, who was dressed by Durban designer, Kathrin Kidger.

It was revealed that this year's DFF would take place for four days, running from 26 to 29 August at the Durban International Convention Centre.

Speaking at the launch, manager of the Durban Tourism business support, Sindi Shangase, said designers have taken the city's style extravaganza to a whole new level.

"The work I have seen them preparing for is exciting, it is something I can take to New York fashion week and in Milan. DFF will have over 50 designers including both young and established, and for the very first time on the 26th on our opening, it will be the men's wear day," Sindi said.

DFF will also see kids' fashion being showcased, and, on the last day, the people who played a role in growing and maintaining Durban fashion will be rewarded.

After all the formalities, Durban designers showed us a glimpse of their work.

Well known faces spotted at the launch included Uzalo actors Kay Sibiya, Smangele Maphumulo, and Noni Gasa, who is now the Woolworths PR Manager, She also took to the stage to give advice to people who have an interest in the fashion industry.
