Death hangs over Sibahle’s dancing victory

A grey cloud has darkened the victory of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ winner Sibahle Tshibika, whose grandmother reportedly passed away shortly after the announcement that she had won the reality dancing competition.

According to the Daily Sun, Sibahle’s 72-year-old gogo, Beatrice Tshibika, died in her home in Khayelitsha while her granddaughter was accepting her R250 000 prize money, which she has said she is going to use to buy her mother a house.

The 23-year-old dancer apparently also collapsed when told about the passing of her gran, who she has credited for her victory.

“It would have been nice to celebrate with her, but God had a different plan. My gogo supported me and she was the reason I got so far,” she said.

Sibahle’s mother, Noluthando, also commented on her mother’s death, saying: “It’s very sad but life has to go on.

“We are in the process of preparing for the funeral, but we also need to celebrate Sibahle’s achievement.”
