DJ Warras: I was not fired!

Warrick Stock has set the record straight about the mysterious disappearance of his 'Undisputed' radio show on YFM.

Better known as DJ Warras, Stock has revealed that he was not fired from YFM, but summarily taken off the air when he decided not to sign another contract with the station.

Speaking to Sunday World, the DJ explained that he wasn't allowed to honour the remainder of his contract, which was supposed to run until 31 March.

He said: "I was not fired from YFM like many people assume. I turned down the offer to renew my contract and they prematurely took me off my show before the end of my current contract.

"Management told me that I was not going to do more shows in the same meeting that I told them I was not going to continue working at YFM."

He went on to lament the fact that the radio station didn't feel the need to reward him for years of dutiful work by allowing him to go on air one last time, so he could bid farewell to his loyal listeners.

"What really disappointed me was that they refused to let me do a goodbye show after I pleaded with them to do one," said Stock, who is also known for his role as presenter on live SABC music show 'Live AMP'.

"I've been working at YFM for six years now, I expected them to take me seriously.

"These are signs of a place that doesn't take its talent seriously. I didn't deserve that. But at least I'm an established brand now. Being cut off on Monday doesn't mean you are irrelevant on Tuesday."

YFM big wigs do not, however, feel like they owe the DJ anything.

When approached for comment, YFM chief executive Kanthan Pillay said: "Why should we give him another show? It is our station, not his."

The DJ nevertheless expressed his gratitude for the kick start the station gave his career when he said: "I will forever be grateful to YFM. Nobody can take away the fact that they are the best platform for young DJs in South Africa."
