Emmy Roundup

The Emmy Awards Ceremony is probably one of, if not the biggest, awards ceremony to take place outside of the tradittional "Awards Season" (Oscars, Grammies, Golden Globes, etc.) But its still a ceremony that receives plenty of heat and attention. Last night, the 65th Emmy awards were no different as many around the world tuned in to see which of their favorite television series would recieve the greatest critical acclaim. There were a few shockers, as well as a few justified winners. Let's have a look at which ones we agree with and which ones we don't.

Emmy Drama Winners and Nominees

Let's start with the outstanding actor and actresses. I personally felt that Claire Danes was an outstanding custodian of the Lead Actress award. She somehow managed to better an outstanding performance in Season 1 with an incredibly lifelike performance in season 2 and rightfully deserved to win it.

Jeff Daniels was a shock to me, but not the bad kind. He was a mild shock in a category of strong contenders and realistically anybody could have won it. Breaking Bad came to the party as Anna Gun (Skyler) won the award for Oustanding Supporting Acress, before the show was awarded the Outstanding Drama Series award, both decisions I'd agree with.

Overall, the Drama Segment of the show had a few upsets and shockers, based largely on the shows you like (Breaking Bad fans would have loved to see Brian Cranston take home the Lead Actor Award.) But ultimately the victors were all of quality acting/producing/writing/directing ability.

Emmy Comedy Winners and Nominees

Hmm, I'm a little more disappointed here. In my humble opinion, Modern Family is not only the best sitcom on television, but boasts some of the most talented actors. I'm a little disappointed to find that none of them were recognized as leads; but based on the nature of the series, I understand. Instead, Modern Family was awarded the Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series as well as the Outstanding Comedy Series awards. Still, the show reigns supreme while the others, good on their own rights, lag behind.

30 Rock Writers, Tina Fey and Tracy Wigfield were awarded with the Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series Awards for their work on the popular sitcom. Jim Parsons, who stars as Sheldon Cooper in the annoyingly overratedy The Big Bang Theory Walked away with the Outstanding Actor In a Comedy Series award. I'm not a fan of the show, but he's a worthy winner.

Emmy Miniseries and Movies Winners and Nominees

I will confess to not knowing a great deal about this category and will only comment on the one the one winner I do know. Behind the Candelabra,The incredible Biopic on the secret life of Liberace housed the winner of the Oustanding Actor in a Miniseries or Movie award, in Michael Douglas. As an aside, this biopic showed that perhaps Matt Damon is  capable of delivering an excellent acting performance outside of the Bourne Movies.
