Exclusive Interview: Keagan Petersen
As the 7th winner of Big Brother Africa, SA housemate Keagan Petersen chats to Zalebs…
He came. He saw. He conquered! South African housemate and Cape Town resident Keagan Petersen become the 7th winner of Big Brother Africa after spending 91 days inside the Big Brother house.
Keagan, who won R2,4 million (US$ 300 000) for his efforts clowned his way into the hearts of the reality TV show’s voters and the African public, as he walked away with 7 majority territory votes.
Speaking to ZAlebs after his win, a visibly shocked Petersen said he plans to invest his winnings and to also seek “sound financial advice” before spending it all.
“I am not the type to splurge on anything and I don’t have any plans to buy myself anything fancy or expensive. I have always been fortunate to have had a life that afforded me things and I won’t change that now all because I won this game,” he said.
The Cape Town-born Keagan, a 22-year-old intern manager, beat 35 housemates, 14 partners and seven celebrities to win the game. Keagan, said that the Big Brother experience taught him a lot about himself and his future plans.
“I learnt how to communicate better with other cultures, I became a more patient person and also learnt how to control my anger I had. This game changed my life. I’ve also learnt that I am not the type of person to waste any life opportunities and next year I plan to start studying an IT degree,” he shared.
Keagan, who shared a public romance with Zambian contestant Talia Hayward inside the Big Brother StarGame house, said there’s still hope of their relationship working outside of the house.
“Talia and I shared a deep, intimate bond inside the Big Brother Africa house and we both have feelings for each other. In terms of pursuing a relationship, nothing is cast in stone at this stage but we’re looking at to how we can make it work. Talia’s based in Zambia and I love Cape Town so there’s going to be a sacrifice from either of us if we want it to work.”
