I love surprises – the good kind, obviously. I flew back to Joburg on Saturday afternoon, just in time for Father’s Day. My little sister, Tandi was the only member of the family who knew, as she was fetching me from the airport. I arrived at my parents and my mom and dad’s faces were priceless. My sister even had to rescue a plate from my mom’s hands as she nearly dropped it.
I am blessed with an amazing family and I am grateful every day for the love, encouragement, support and for being such fantastic role models.
My dad always makes me think of Led Zepplin and Dire Straits. As a little girl, I remember him always blearing the music loudly on a Saturday and Sunday morning. He makes me think of Custard slices and Apple strudel. He was always at my choir recitals, school plays and hockey games and his big grin of support means more to me than I can even express. He soon became the “favourite” parent to fetch my high school friends and I from parties, as he was never super embarrassing and would park a little bit away and not come inside. He’s the cool Chartered Accountant – yes, they exist. I can always hear my dad, even before I see him. He has this infectious laugh and is very funny. He has a great sense of humour, even if he isn’t the best joke teller. He gives the best bear hugs and I know that he is always there for me no matter what.
He has taught me some valuable life lesson’s and inspired me to always be my best.
I’m so glad I got to spend Father’s Day with you Dad. Thank you for everything and I love you very much!
Love,
