For one night only expect to see your favourite Gauteng based sports personalities decked out in their finery at the Gauteng Sports Awards!
Fresh faces, glitz and glam will be the order of the day at the 2013 Gauteng Sports Awards to be held at Emperors Palace on June 29th.
The GSA’s will roll out the red carpet for both our established and emerging sporting hero’s in Gauteng.
The official media launch was held on the 25th of April 2013 with some familiar faces in attendance including Boity Thulo, Dineo Moketsi, Carol Manana and the Minister himself, MEC Lebogang Maile.
Also in attendance was young promising golf talent, Raylyn Anthony who is a firm favourite of the MEC.
The MEC did mention that this young golfer had to turn down many tournament opportunities due to lack of funding.
It is through a platform like the GSA’s that the MEC hopes to help other young sporting talent like Raylyn.
The event also served as a launching pad to kick-start a campaign to urge Gauteng communities and Sport Federations to nominate their favourite sport stars for the forth-coming awards!
Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC Lebogang Maile says: “Once again this year we celebrate the sporting talent that is prominent in our province. We want to ensure maximum community participation in the awards through various community outreach projects and the nomination process. This year we will be introducing a new category which will recognize the sports fans who are keeping the sports passion alive through their undying support for their heroes”
Last year, the cream of the crop of the Gauteng sporting fraternity were awarded in the 14 categories for the Sport Awards.
Some of the winners from last year included:
Most Promising Athlete of the Year: Shianne Addinall for Water Skiing.
Most Promising Team of the Year : University of Pretoria (AmaTuks) for Football.

Through the spirit of good sporting conduct and successful sportsmanship these awards recognize the inspiration, commitment and excellence across all sporting disciplines.
