The show has hit the net - will it become a global success?

Generations: The Legacy has proved some people wrong. The show, which had a revamp last December, is still the most watched soapie in Mzansi, with over five million viewers. And now, Generations: The Legacy has gone global. The SABC 1 soapie made its debut on YouTube this week, allowing fans from around the world to keep up. The show can be viewed on the net immediately after airing on TV. According to SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago, the numbers of views for the soapie on the video-sharing site are encouraging. He told TimesLive that word of mouth helped Intersexions hit 75,000 views without promotion or advertising. He added: We believe that, with the same promotion behind it, the seven-day catch-up on TV content of the SABC can build a significant following. The SABC is a premium content partner of YouTube and as such our revenue share is higher than that of individuals or companies that do not have the same status." Wow! Some people probably didn't see that one coming. The show has drawn a lot of criticism since it hit our screens, but it seems like the SABC, Mfundi Vundla and his team are turning things around. According to the latest statistics compiled by TVSA, the show is not doing badly at all. Here are the numbers for the top soapies on South Africa:  1) Generations (SABC1) 5,234,000
2) uZalo (SABC1) 4,510,000
3) Muvhango (SABC2) 4,279,000
4) Skeem Saam (SABC1) 3,786,000
5) Scandal! (e.tv) 2,666,000

With the show now showing on YouTube and the amount of South African fans who live overseas, could the show become a global sensation?
