She’s grasped the attention of every Generations male fan with her beauty, feistiness and the ability to act. Known by most South Africans as "Tammy" and known by industry peers as Sheena D, we took sometime to chat with the lady that has been causing quite a stir on Generations lately.
You recently got engaged to your long-term boyfriend. How different is your relationship now that you’re engaged?
It’s pretty awesome and very different for some strange reason. I’ve been dating my boyfriend for about seven years which is like forever, and whilst we were still dating we both agreed that getting engaged wasn’t really that necessary. Then he surprised me by popping the question and like I’ve mentioned everything’s just different and I feel like we’re closer now than ever before. Now we know that we’re together for the long run and the fact that there’s going to be children and a whole new family involved makes this engagement experience in my life even more special.
Tell us about your first day on the Generations set and who was the most welcoming cast member of them all?
You don’t really get to see the whole cast as we all have different call times, however I will say that I was extremely nervous because I received my script the day before my first shoot. I wasn’t too clued up on what type of character “Tammy” was until I had the script in my hand and OMG was I taken for a surprise.
When I read the script the first thing I saw was that I had to kiss “Nicholas” (Thato Molamu) on my first day and guys, you need to understand, for the past seven years of my life I’ve only kissed one guy so I was really taken aback! I went on set did my thing and I realised I was nervous for nothing because everyone was just so welcoming, supportive and professional it was an awesome time.
How similar would you say “Tammy” is to you?
We’re so different it’s not even funny! I’m a bit of an old soul. “Tammy” however is the life of the party, hooking up with every other guy whereas with me, I’m still with my first boyfriend and we've been together for seven years. I’m not a party person at all! Just this past weekend we went to a club and I kid you not we were in and out within minutes whereas “Tammy” would leave when the club shuts down.
How did your fiancé’ react when you told him you were going to kiss someone else?
It was quite interesting because he always helps me out with my lines whenever we read scripts together. So when he saw the Generations script he was also surprised but then he just started laughing about it. I was so nervous that I actually started crying about it! But he just told me to chill and realise that this comes with being an actor. Not being a professional in the industry at all, he had to calm me down and convince me that it’s actually not me but “Tammy” that’s doing the kissing. I’m just lucky to have a fiancé who understands my career and the things I need to do in my profession.
Were you surprised with the positive response you received from Generations fans when you first appeared on the soapie?
I was pleasantly surprised! And I think what was more important to me was that I really didn't want to be seen as just a pretty face. I was relieved when people on social media began commenting on how I can actually act rather than just focusing on my looks. The fact they enjoy my character is just the cherry ontop of the cake.
