Quick facts
14 Years. That’s how long we’ve known Coldplay. That’s right, it was the year 2000 when we heard Yellow and wondered who this band was that critics were calling the next U2. Ghost Stories is the band’s sixth album and comes just two months after lead singer Chris Martin and his wife of a decade, Gwyneth Paltrow, announced their "conscious uncoupling" – outwardly a breakup with the best intentions, but a split all the same. Although not everyone was loving the newish sound of the band on this album, the legions of fans ensured that the album shot to the top of the charts around the world, including the US and UK. Leading up to the release of Ghost Stories, planned to reveal the lyrics for all nine songs by hiding Chris Martin's handwritten lyric sheets in ghost story books in libraries in nine countries across the world. Social media featured clues for true fans as to the exact locations of the lyrics.

“Magic” and “A sky full of stars.”
What others have to say
Ghost Stories is set somewhere between depression and acceptance: While Martin sprints all the way out to the precipice, Coldplay – still the same four guys who brought you Yellow in 2000 and share equal credit on every track – don't slip over the edge. The throbby single Magic and brighter Ink plumb the prospects of eternal love after the flame of romance has been extinguished. The album's most ecstatic track, the Avicii-assisted A Sky Full of Stars – a full-on detour into the Swedish DJ's patented strum-tronica – gives Martin a chance to (awkwardly) dance himself clean - Rolling Stone
What we have to say
The world is full of bitter people. And a lot of them are hating this album. A lot of them are hating Coldplay right now, complaining about the fact that Chris dares take time to get over Gwyneth… the fact that the album only has 9 songs… As for us, we’re not bitter people. A lot of bands would give anything to sound this good. For every “Get over yourself Coldplay” sentiment out there, there’s an equal “Get over yourself Coldplay hater” sentiment.
It makes us wanna… “...tell Chris all’s gonna be alright.”
In their own words
In an interview with The BBC, Chris Martin had this to say about the track Magic:
"It's not a question of you either really love someone or you really hate someone, it's more nuanced than that, especially with the modern world's complications - like travelling and all the stuff that comes to life, and illness and addiction and all those kinds of things. It's just saying - ultimately - there is magic between two people no matter what anyone else thinks."
