Glitz fashion events on cards before Durban July
 
The Vodacom Durban July is one of the greatest sporting events on the Durban calender, attracting not only local visitors but international punters and celebrities. The race has become not only about punters but a fashion mecca experience for local and international visitors. The Vodacom Durban July Fashion Experience will take centre stage on the social scene in the build-up to, and on the day of the famous race meeting.
 
This year's fashion theme is "Posh? Oh My Gosh!" and its all about understated elegance and sophisticated style. If you attending this glam, social sporting event, and have still not yet found that 'oh so posh' outfit, fear not as the city is playing host to some awesome fashion events where fashionistas can go along to find a designer garment or just enjoy what the city has to offer pre-the Durban July event.
 
First on the cards is the much-anticipated fashion extravaganza, the Fashion by the Sea event set to take place at Moyo on the Pier at uShaka Marine World on Wednesday, 3 July from 6.30pm. Themed ‘Fashion Meets Music’, this exciting fashion showcase features big names such as David Tlale, Duke, Kathrin Kidger; Dax Martin; Karen Monk-Klijnstra; Zarth and C-Squared as well as seven of the exciting young designers who were selected for internships in Milan, during last year’s Durban Fashion Fair.
 
Karla Lortan of Karla Lortan, Amanda Van Tonder of VTON International, Treasure Cindi of House of Treasure Cindi, Sandile Mlambo of House of Alfalfa, Shaun Dugen of Nguni Shades, Mxolisi Mkhize of House of St Luke and Miles Lutuli of Lutuleigh are the young designers who will showcase alongside their fashion icons. If that doesn't whet your appetite make your way to Gateway's Vodacom Durban July Preview Fashion Show which is set to wow audiences with yet another breathtaking line-up at Gateway on 5 July 2013 from 7.15pm. Top fashion designers such as Terrence Bray, Gideon, Andre Martin, Kathrin Kidger and Colleen Eitzeen, to name but a few, will showcase their interpretation of this year’s theme – Posh? Oh My Gosh! through classy, glamorous and jaw-dropping garments. After the concert, a bonus for the audience will be a free concert which will feature well-known South African acts such as Pascal and Pearce, Fresh, Euphonik and Toya Delazy. The best part is that the cost to attend this fashion showcase and concert is free.
 
If you just looking to unwind and to let your hair down, why not go along to the Cube Nightclub for a Durban July Pre-party on 5 July 2013 which will feature performances from top South African musicians and DJ's such as Mafikizolo, Black Coffee, AKA, Fistaz, Lvovo, Bongz FT Mokokoroshe,Chynaman, Govner, King Sfiso and DJ Lab. Tickets are R120.
 
Besides local and international visitors making their way to our province, many celebrities will also be hopnobbing in Durban at a pre-Durban July Cocktail evening at the Southern Sun Elangeni and Maharani Pool on 5 July 2013. The invitation-only event will have top international jockeys, horse trainers and presenter Liezel van der Westhuizen, to name but a few, attending the event. Durban's darling of fashion, designer Haroun Hansrot, will be showcasing his new platinum collection of evening wear for women.
 
The first-time ever range will feature garments embroidered with platinum beads which will also stitched into pieces of jewellery. This is an opportunity for celebrities to do some last minute shopping and purchase A 'Hansrot Couture' garment on the spot. Durban will become the place to be seen in so make your way to these fashion spectacular events and enjoy what the city has to offer.
