Zalebs kicked off women’s month yesterday by speaking to one of the hottest female DJs in South Africa. We followed that up by spending an afternoon with former Miss South Africa, Joan Madibeng, as well as other special guests. We were invited to indulge in pleasantries that involved deliciously flavored teas, tasty snacks, and jovial discussions.
Joan began proceedings by announcing her newest initiative, the Real Architects of Society, a women’s month initiative aimed at encouraging women around the country. A message Joan was keen to emphasize throughout the entire event.
“I Want us all to unite. Not just me or you, but everyone. I want us to all unite and get together and DO something instead of just pointing fingers, but actually unite and create a better South Africa”
We could not resist informing Joan Madibeng that we are dedicating the whole of August’s content to Women’s Month; to which she was thrilled. We asked her what she thought of the way South African Society is treating it’s women today and where she thinks we need to go.
“I think there’s definitely progress. A decade ago we weren’t where we are today, there are certainly opportunities today. But I also think there’s still some way to go. As I said, we will be more effective when we stand together. Sure, when you look at Corporates there’s a few women here and there, but it’s largely dominated by the males. I would still like to see females taking on the world, in all industries and being on par with their male counterparts. That equal balance is the end goal for me.”
Some powerful words from a powerful lady, and her influence emanated through the room during the tea date. From the manner in which everybody gravitated towards her, to the talent she had on exhibition for us all to enjoy. We were spoiled by the talents of an incredible acoustic guitarist named Thabang, who played a piece as well as accompanying for a poet. However, this article would be remiss without mentioning the outstanding talents of Story teller, Bongiswa Kotta-Ramushwana. She captivated the entire audience with her story, themed specifically for Women’s day, and tied it up with a resounding message that condensed, captured and accentuated the key point of the overall event.
We need to be united as a people, in order to move forward as a country.
