Russell Brand is usually known as the comedian who says the first thing that comes to his mind – and let’s be real, the guy has no filter.
I, personally, found it quite difficult to take him very seriously; the things he says can be quite questionable. So it came as a shock to me when I watched his latest episode of his youtube show, “trews”. The video, titled, “The colour of Kim Kardashian hair or husband: what’s really important?”, tackles the issue of racism. I have to admit I watched the entire video expecting a punch-line at the end that would make me go, “Oh, there’s the Russel Brand I know”, but it never came.
In the video, which is filled with clips of racial incidents that have taken place in America (and the rest of the world)over the past few years (he clearly did a lot of research regarding the topic), Russel points out that celebrities like Kim Kardashian might have more of an influence on society than Barack Obama. I know, right *gasp*.
He says, “Barack Obama being black and being president isn’t a demonstration of progress, but a demonstration that politics itself has no power” He adds, “They [politicians] are merely the henchmen of the truly powerful”
Brand points out that something as small as Kim changing the colour of her hair seems to be more of a hot topic than racism at times.
Is this true? Ask yourself this, what gets you talking more amongst your friends, the death of a young boy because of the colour of his skin, or that moment when you realise Kim Kardshian is now a platinum blonde?
Wait… If Kim has more of an influence than Barack, does this mean that she should run for president? Thoughts?
