Interviews: BenchMarq Gets Lit with ZAlebs
By Zee Nonjabulo on 14 September 2015 at 15:56 · Comments
ZAlebs hijackers BenchMarq spoke to ZAlebs about their latest single, "Get Lit".

Pretoria West has given birth to SA’s next hip hop duo, BenchMarq, which consists of T.K Mathiba and P.J Mataboge.

Formed in 2008, the duo had one common goal – to make good music and inspire people. Fast forward to 2015 and the guys are still at it with their latest single, Get Lit.

Not only are these guys rappers, but they're also sound engineers.

Speaking to ZAlebs, we started off by asking the duo why they decided to end their name off with a "Q" instead of a "K", and their reply was simple:

"It's all about quality, man, and to give people something new and original," said the group.

We then immediately hopped onto the topic of their latest single, Get Lit, which is receiving heavy rotation on many radio stations at the moment. We asked the crew why people should get familiar with their new single.

"Get Lit is just one of those tracks you gotta turn up to, that's the song for you, that's your theme song. We don't think we should sell the song to you, for example, there's a Bentley and there's a Ferrari and that means it's either you have money, or you don't. So in other words, you just go there to buy it because you want it, so Get Lit is that type of track, it doesn't try to sell itself. You listen to it and you just want it."
