Interviews: Lunch with Lundi
By Tamlyn Canham on 04 October 2015 at 13:14 · Comments
We interview Jacaranda FM DJ Lundi about food and all things.. well, food.

What do Jacaranda FM DJ Lundi ‘Khoisan’ Cavernelis and biltong have in common?

In her words, they’re both hard on the outside and soft on the inside.

We caught up with Lundi to find out what lunch with the self-proclaimed ambassador of all things South African would be like.

You invite us over to your house for lunch, what music are you playing when we walk in?

Definitely some Afrikaans rock – most likely Van Coke Kartel.

People who Instagram food pictures…?

Try really hard to make their lives look great, while the rest of us are having a jol chowing away.

Eating a bunny chow with a knife and fork…?

Is way too pretentious. Just sommer gooi it with the hand.

Breakfast at lunch…?

Is gross. It just means you forgot to eat it in the morning and now you have it for lunch because you feel bad for wasting it or you’re too broke to buy fresh lunch.

Breakfast at dinner…?

Is cool – that’s like breaking the rules on purpose. Cereal and cartoons at night time for the win!

What local dish do you think best describes your personality and why?

I am like a piece of biltong. real hard on the outside, but very soft on the inside. Also, authentically South African.

If you could choose anyone in South Africa, which five people would you invite over for lunch?

Koos Kombuis, Julius Malema, Francois van Coke, Riaan Cruywagen, and a homeless individual.

And what would the topic of discussion be?

We would most likely share our various views on South Africa and discuss different local topics, such as - the evolution of the South African entertainment industry, the role of language, politics, how we overcome issues by laughing at ourselves and then explore the viewpoint on life, in our country, from an average South African viewpoint.

Catch Lundi on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 16:00.
