Irresponsible Ringo upsets lawyers

Madlingozi, who has been accused of failing to pay more than R2 million in VAT and PAYE to SARS, was meant to have visited the Legal Aid Johannesburg Justice Centre before close of business on Wednesday in order to undergo a Means Test.

Speaking to The New Age, Legal Aid spokesperson Mpho Phasha confirmed that Ringo had applied to them for assistance.

Phasha added, "We were expecting Madlingozi to visit the Justice Centre on Tuesday or Wednesday, for a means test to be conducted to determine whether he qualifies for legal aid, but he hasn't pitched.

"Since he didn't pitch, it means he will be in court without our funding. He will have to have his own private lawyer," he said.

Ringo, who first came to prominence in 1986 when his band Peto won the Shell Road to Fame contest, has won multiple awards for his music including SAMA's and Kora's.
