Isibaya sweeps Royal Soapie Awards

It’s been an extremely great run for the telenovela now turned soapie Isibaya. With astounding reviews from television and media critics to television viewership that has skyrocketed, it's no surprise that Isibaya swept almost every award at the Inaugural Royal Soapie Awards held this past weekend in Durban.

Isibaya, produced by The Bomb Shelter, scooped all the major awards on the night including Outstanding Soapie, Outstanding Lead Actor (Siyabonga Twala) and Outstanding Lead Actress (Thembi Nyandeni).

Isibaya also dominated the technical categories including: Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Art Direction, Outstanding Make-Up, Outstanding Casting Director, Outstanding Lighting and Outstanding Editing. There is clearly no stopping the Isibaya crew and cast from reaching greatness these days.

Isibaya dominated the night, but shared some of the spotlight with 7de Laan who also made their presence felt by scooping three awards for Outstanding Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Newcomer

We also think Isidingo actors Tema Sebopedi (who plays the character of Lerato Tsotestsi) and Motlatsi Mafatshe (who plays the character of Sechaba Moloi) deserved the Oustanding Couple award

The awards are set to be aired on SABC 1 in the coming weeks, although the channel has not yet announced the date. We'll keep you posted as soon as a date has been confirmed.
