Jub Jub denied bail

eNCA reports that the imprisoned hip hop artist wasn’t in court for the verdict delivered by Judge Natvarlal Ranchod, who ruled that Jub Jub is a flight risk and therefore would not be granted bail.

On Tuesday Jub Jub’s legal team argued that the murder conviction handed down by Magistrate Brian Nemavhidi was flawed. Judge Ranchod rejected that argument, saying: “I am convinced that the magistrate exercised his duties accordingly. The application for bail is refused.”

Maarohanye reportedly twice asked that his passport be released so that he could travel during his trial, something Ranchod said makes it seem likely that he’ll try to flee the country.

“He requested the passport to travel instead of applying to the court to relax his bail conditions,” said the judge.

Jub Jub and Themba Tshabalala were in 2012 both sentenced to 25 years in prison for crashing into a group of schoolboys while drag racing on a public road, killing four and leaving two of the children permanently brain damaged. They were both found guilty of murder, attempted murder, and driving under the influence of drugs.
