After sell-out success with her previous concerts in SA in March last year, the beautiful Katherine Jenkins can’t wait to return to our beautiful country again this August.
We caught up with the Welsh songstress who is fast becoming one of the brightest classical-popular crossover stars in the world.
You have quite a big following in SA – your shows did so well last year and you’re expected to draw even bigger crowds this year! So you know that we like you, what do you think of the South African people?
I love you! Honestly. My time in South Africa when I came last year in March was one of the highlights of my year! I brought my mom with me and we had just an incredible couple of weeks and everybody was so amazing. I’ve actually been asking all along if I can come back! I’m thrilled to be coming back this year.
What’s so special for you about South Africa?
The people are just so lovely to me and make me feel incredibly welcome. I feel like you already have such a beautiful country, but you’re beautiful people as well.
We have to ask – Joburg or Cape Town?
That’s difficult. When I was in Joburg I got to do some lovely things. I went to the lion park and I got to cuddle the lion cubs. I’m such an animal lover that that was just a gorgeous thing to happen. But then I also love the scenery of Cape Town, which is beautiful. So I’m really not sure – I love them both in different ways.
What else did you get up to last time you were here?
Well I obviously also had the concerts, and one of them was at a wine estate – that was just amazing. We drove around and saw so much wildlife. I honestly loved it.
What is your favourite memory?
You know what, it has to be Robben Island. It’s so special, it’s just an incredible place and I will never forget it – so I have to say Robben Island.
Anything special you hope to do or see this time?
I feel like on my list of things to do I was very well looked after last year. They took me to see all the things I wanted to see. So I feel like this time I need some input of local knowledge to let me know where’s good that I haven’t been yet. I know that I probably haven’t even scratched the surface, so I’ll be asking for recommendations when I get there!
What’s your message to your fans?
Just that I’m so looking forward to seeing everyone again and thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome. I can’t wait to be back and see everybody – so I hope they can make it to the concert!
