Quick facts…
She has released three perfumes called “Purr,” “Meow” and “Killer Queen.” She’s the voice of Smurfette in The Smurf movies. But thankfully she’s better known for her music. “Prism” is Katy’s fourth CD after “Teenage Dream” in 2010, “One for the boys” in 2008 and her debut CD back in 2001 simply called “Katy Hudson,” which happens to be her real name and surname.
Best tracks…
We love “Roar” as its breezy upbeat optimism will be the soundtrack of many a person’s recovery from failure/disappointment/hurt. Other stand-out tracks are “Unconditionally,” “Double Rainbow” and “Dark Horse.”
What others have to say…
Perry is still championing optimism but "Prism" is also a firm and well-executed step toward adulthood. New single "Unconditionally" trades in the idealistic love of "Teenage Dream" for a romance more realistic and reliable; elsewhere, Perry evokes her recent divorce ("Ghost") and its personal effects ("By The Grace of God") with slowed-down guitar hooks and thoughtful piano strikes… the second half feels more lived-in, with Perry patiently discussing her battles with hopeless relationships, struggles to understand herself and attempts to live for the moment in a whirlwind reality. These songs are not the bubblegum summer smashes of a California Gurl, but something much deeper from an artist striving to tell her full story. www.billboard.com
What we have to say…
“Prism” doesn’t disappoint. It’s light, instantly likeable pop that proves you don’t have to wear a dress made of meat or light a joint on stage to get people to take note of you or your music. Some might argue it’s a tad formulaic, but if you liked her previous two CDs, you’ll most likely have this on repeat for quite a while.
It makes us wanna…
“…be there for someone.”
In her own words…
In an interview with MTV, this is what she had to say about the new CD: “The reason why I called this record Prism is because I actually finally let the light in and then I was able to create all these songs that were inspired by letting the light in and doing some self-reflection and just kind of working on myself. I felt very prismatic because of that I feel like now I get to show these songs off and share these songs with the listeners and it's almost like I get to beam the colours that I've experienced out from me!”
