American rapper Kendrick Lamar has arrived in South Africa ahead of his much-anticipated three-city Miller Boomtown tour of the country.
Lamar is set to play three shows; the first at the Wave House in Durban on 7 February, the second at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg on 8 February, and the last at the Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town on 9 February.
Television host Sade Giliberti on Thursday announced that the hip hop star had touched down in South Africa, with a photo and a tweet which read: "He's arrived! @kendricklamar is in the motherland people... It's happening! #MillerBoomTown here we come."
Born in Compton, California, Kendrick Lamar initially released his first three mixtapes under the moniker K-Dot. He, however, decided to use his birth name instead, and released his fourth mixtape, 'Overly Dedicated', as Kendrick Lamar.
It's mainly this offering that put Lamar on the map, with the track 'ignorance is bliss' being credited as the reason why renowned hip hop producer Dr Dre wanted to work with him. Dre watched the music video for the song on youtube and Lamar soon after collaborated with him and Snoop Dogg on Dre's 'Detox' album. Kendrick Lamar released his third and latest album, 'Good Kid, M.A.A.D City', in 2012.
Local rappers Reason and Khuli Chana will be supporting the Grammy-nominated American rapper as he tours the country.
